West Suffolk covers approximately 400 square miles with a population of around 175,000 (mid 2014 estimate) living in villages and the historic and vibrant market towns of Brandon, Bury St Edmunds, Clare, Haverhill, Mildenhall and Newmarket. It is the home of international and high profile industries. In addition to traditional sectors such as agri-tech, manufacturing, bio-tech, food, engineering the area also has a strong tourist and horseracing industry. Greene King plc's headquarters are based in West Suffolk and British Sugar plc's factory are also based here. It is also home to two of the largest United States Air Force (USAF) airbases in the UK: RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall.
