West Suffolk Council

West Suffolk Council is located in rural Suffolk but is also part of the Cambridge Sub-region and on transport links to Felixstowe. One of its main priorities is supporting investment and businesses in the area.

West Suffolk covers approximately 400 square miles with a population of around 175,000 (mid 2014 estimate) living in villages and the historic and vibrant market towns of Brandon, Bury St Edmunds, Clare, Haverhill, Mildenhall and Newmarket. It is the home of international and high profile industries. In addition to traditional sectors such as agri-tech, manufacturing, bio-tech, food, engineering the area also has a strong tourist and horseracing industry. Greene King plc’s headquarters are based in West Suffolk and British Sugar plc’s factory are also based here. It is also home to two of the largest United States Air Force (USAF) airbases in the UK: RAF Lakenheath and RAF Mildenhall.

West Suffolk also shares borders with Essex, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire and has excellent trunk road connections, including proximity to Stansted airport and east coast ports.
